2014 was a great year for finding deals on high-end camera lenses. I purchased (2) of Canon’s L series lenses… EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM and EF 24-70 f/2.8 USM. This combination is considered to be a must have for any serious professional photographer. I’m amazed at the quality of images produced by these lenses.

In 2008 and 2009 I took part in the Capture Rochester photography event. Actually calling it an event isn’t entirely accurate. The Rochester D&C set up a website where local photographers could upload images into specific categories that were showcased on the site. Users could then vote on these photographs by simply clicking a “like” or “dislike” button. The images with the most popular votes were then published in the books once voting ended. On March 22nd I had the opportunity to participate in a photo shoot (workshop) with some other local photographers. We shot on location at the Monroe County Clerks office with a model in a wedding dress. This gave me the the chance to put my new Canon 6D to the test. I was impressed with how well the camera handled low light situations. All shots were taken with a 24-105mm f4 L lens with natural light and on-camera and off-camera flash. I finally took the plunge and updated my gear to full-frame. I found a deal on-line for a Canon 6D with 24-105mm f/4 L kit lens that was too good to pass up. I also purchased a 17-40mm f/4 L lens since that was on sale as well as I quickly realized I missed the ultra-wide angles I was getting with my crop lens (Sigma 10-20mm). The 6D is simply amazing.
